Former Soccer Star in Hot Water Over Marijuana Plants

It was trouble off the pitch this week for one-time Zimbabwe football great Gift Muzadzi. The ex-Dynamos goalkeeper found himself in a Harare courtroom facing charges related to the discovery of cannabis plants at his home.

According to reports, police received a tip that led them to Muzadzi’s property in Good Hope last month. Upon searching the grounds, officers identified seven marijuana plants growing in the garden ranging between 0.86 meters and 1.8 meters tall.

When questioned, Muzadzi’s wife Mendy reportedly told authorities the plants belonged to her husband. He later allegedly admitted to police that he had planted the cannabis.

As a result, the former national team keeper was charged under the Dangerous Drugs Act. He was briefly present for his initial hearing before Magistrate Yeukai Dzuda on Monday.

The judge released Muzadzi on ZW$50,000.
