In the aftermath of a violent incident that took place during a league match between local football giants Dynamos and Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium, the Zimbabwe Republic Police have disclosed the names of 19 suspects who have been arrested for their involvement in the public violence. The encounter, which saw fans storming the pitch, was abruptly halted just moments before the conclusion of the first half.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national spokesperson for the police, released a statement indicating that investigations are currently underway to apprehend any additional suspects linked to the violent incident.
On the 10th of September, 2023, Barbourfields Stadium became the site of public unrest, prompting the Zimbabwe Republic Police to take action. Assistant Commissioner Nyathi reiterated the ongoing nature of the investigations and expressed the police force’s determination to account for all individuals involved in the violence.
The arrested suspects have now been identified as follows: Reymond Nkomo (25) from Makokoba, Bulawayo; Noboth Sithole from Mzilikazi, Bulawayo; Sylvester Gumbo (30) from Old Pumula; Shepherd Ncube (26) from BMC, Mzilikazi; Wisdom Dube (30) from Nkulumane 5; Shepherd Dube (24) from Ngozi Mine, Bulawayo; Raymond Nkomo (26) from Makokoba; Micah Masuku (49) from Makokoba; Zibusiso Nkomo (32) from Old Lobengula; Nelson Musengi (27) from Pelandaba West; Brian Moyo (36) from New Luveve; Willard Ncube (46) from Pumula North; Khumbulani Khumalo (49) from Sauerstown; Promise Mbambo (37) from Jabulani Flats, Makokoba; Hlakanipha Luphahla (28) from Old Pumula; Japhet Ncube (30) from Cowdray Park; Brandon Mpala (27) from Masiyepambili Flats; Ayanda Dube (33) from Old Pumula; and Prince Moyo (35) from Old Pumula.
