Former Soccer Star of the Year Masimba Dinyero was viciously set upon by armed robbers who blindfolded, stripped and robbed him on Wednesday night.
The 58-year old footie legend, affectionately known as “Member in Charge” during his playing days, was crowned Soccer Star of the Year in 1989.
Dinyero and several other victims were lured into a kombi by five armed robbers in Harare’s central business district on the pretext of a lift to Domboshava.
Once in the vehicle, the unsuspecting passengers were driven to Greendale where the robbers revealed their true colours.
Dinyero and the others were blindfolded, had their hands and legs tied up and then brutally stripped nɑked as the heartless thieves robbed them of their valuables.
Dinyero lost US$40 in cash and his cell phones in the ordeal. Another victim reportedly lost over US$250 after the robbers grabbed his groceries and cash.
The terrified victims were then dumped naked in Greendale and had to seek help.
Dinyero told H-Metro: “I boarded a kombi..next thing it took a quick turn, we were blindfolded, stripped nɑked and robbed.”
Despite the shocking robbery, the athletic legend who was nicknamed “three hearts” for his incredible fitness, remains active playing social football.
