In a harrowing turn of events, a 51-year-old Chinese national has been arraigned before the Gweru Magistrates’ Court on allegations of raping a 17-year-old employee. The incident is said to have occurred at a mine in Gweru, where the accused and the complainant worked together.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the alleged rape took place on November 15, 2022, when the accused is reported to have raped the complainant on the floor of his office. The complainant, who was employed as a general worker at the time, was subsequently fired by the accused shortly after the alleged incident.
The matter came to light when the complainant, who gave birth to a baby girl the following year, confided in her mother about the ordeal. A police report was then filed on June 13, 2024, leading to the arrest of the accused person.
The case has been remanded to June 28, 2024, as the investigation continues.
