Shocking act of violence leads to a tragic death in Masvingo
In a disturbing act of violence, a 49-year-old woman from Mugadza Village, Chief Shumba in Masvingo has been charged with the murder of her neighbor. According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the incident occurred on June 7th, 2024.
The accused, Regina Mutume, reportedly went to the residence of the now-deceased looking for the deceased’s granddaughter, who was involved in a case of unlawful entry and theft, with Mutume’s husband as the complainant. When the victim informed Mutume that she did not know the whereabouts of the granddaughter, Mutume allegedly became enraged and assaulted the woman repeatedly with switches, inflicting severe injuries all over her body.
The battered victim was found dead two days later, on June 9th, by a juvenile who notified the Village Head. The body showed clear signs of the brutal assault, including bruises, swelling on the hands, a swollen left side of the face, and black marks on the back.
Mutume has been remanded in custody until June 28th, 2024, when the case will be heard. The National Prosecuting Authority has condemned the tragic incident, emphasizing the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful means rather than resorting to violence.
