Tragic collision claims the life of a cyclist
In a devastating incident that occurred this morning (June 18th), a cyclist was struck and killed by a Buscor bus at the Tiger Wheel & Tyre intersection in Mbombela. The accident took place around 6:30 AM.
According to the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the exact cause of the collision remains unclear at this time. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading up to the tragedy.
The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders after his body was retrieved from underneath the bus. Officials are currently working to identify the victim and notify the next of kin.
The intersection was closed for three hours following the incident as authorities worked to clear the scene. Moeti Mmusi, a spokesperson for the Department, urged motorists, pedestrians and cyclists to exercise greater caution and adhere strictly to traffic laws to prevent similar accidents in the future.
