Game over for Wicknell Chivayo as ZACC gathers more corruption evidence against him

In a significant development in the fight against corruption in Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has gathered substantial documentary evidence in a case involving alleged money laundering and abuse of office. The case centers around a contractual dispute between prominent businesspersons Wicknell Chivayo, Mike Chimombe, and Moses Mpofu over the supply of election materials to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.

According to ZACC Chairman Michael Reza, the commission has amassed a strong case that will soon be taken to court. Reza emphasized that ZACC will pursue the matter relentlessly, making it clear that there are no sacred cows in the fight against corruption.

The investigation was sparked by a letter purportedly written by Mpofu and Chimombe, addressed to a South Africa-based company, Ren-Form, demanding payment and resolution of the contractual dispute. Additionally, ZACC has taken note of audio recordings allegedly linked to Chivayo.

In a previous statement, ZACC spokesperson Commissioner Thandiwe Mlobane indicated that the letter and recordings raise concerns related to money laundering and abuse of office, which fall within the commission’s mandate.

“Consequently, ZACC will be interviewing Mr Mpofu, Mr Chimombe, and Mr Chivayo to gather more information and gain clarity on the matters highlighted,” Mlobane said.

“The commission is also keen to interview Mr Mpofu and Mr Chimombe on the Presidential Goats Scheme mentioned in one of the audios.”

Reza assured Zimbabweans that ZACC is not toothless and will pursue the matter without fear or favour. He emphasized President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s stance that there are no sacred cows in the fight against corruption, a stance that ZACC has firmly adopted.

The latest developments in this high-profile case underscore ZACC’s determination to tackle corruption at the highest levels, sending a strong message that such practices will not be tolerated. As the investigation unfolds, the Zimbabwean public eagerly awaits the outcomes, which may shed light on the alleged irregularities and further strengthen the country’s anti-corruption efforts.
