A gruesome discovery was made by Durban Metro Police during a recent roadblock operation, as officers uncovered a dead body hidden in the back of a vehicle attempting to pass through the checkpoint.
The incident occurred on the M41 highway, where the Metro Police had set up a routine roadblock. According to Colonel Boysie Zungu, the police spokesperson, the officers noticed suspicious behaviour from the driver of the vehicle as it approached the checkpoint.
“The vehicle was stopped during the roadblock, and the officers noticed some suspicious movement from the driver,” Zungu explained.
Zungu said the driver started to get jittery and attempted to flee from law enforcement officers at the scene, and officers gave chase.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the horrifying discovery – the body of a person wrapped in plastic was found in the back of the car. Medical personnel were immediately called to the scene, but they could only confirm the victim’s death.
The two suspects, whose identities have not been released, were detained at the Durban North South African Police Service (SAPS) station for further investigation. Zungu praised the diligence and quick action of the Metro Police officers who were able to uncover this grisly crime.
“We take this opportunity to commend our members for a job well-done in apprehending the two suspects,” Zungu said.
