In a tragic turn of events, a road traffic accident in Zimbabwe’s Zvishavane region has claimed the lives of two people and left 16 others injured. The incident occurred on June 14th, 2024, at approximately 7:30 PM along the Zvishavane–Rutenga Road.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), a Mazda Bongo vehicle carrying 18 passengers veered off the road and overturned, landing on its roof. The devastating accident took place at the 109-kilometer peg along the Zvishavane–Rutenga Road.
The bodies of the two victims were subsequently transported to the Zvishavane District Hospital for post-mortem examinations, while the 16 injured passengers were admitted to the same medical facility for treatment.
Police shared the details of the sad incident on their X handle. “The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident in which two people were killed whilst 16 others were injured at the 109 kilometre peg along Zvishavane –Rutenga Road on 14/06/24 at around 1930 hours.
“Mazda Bongo vehicle with 18 passengers on board veered off the road and overturned before landing on its roof. The bodies of the victims were taken to Zvishavane District Hospital for post mortem whilst the injured are admitted at the same hospital,” reads the statement.
