In a brazen incident of impersonation and assault, a Harare man was arrested on June 8th, 2024, for posing as a police officer at the Machipisa Shopping Centre.
According to police, the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Kundai Taruvinga, along with two accomplices, allegedly accused a victim of illegal foreign currency dealings. The trio, who claimed to be law enforcement officers, then proceeded to physically assault the victim.
However, their criminal act was cut short as members of the public intervened and apprehended Taruvinga. Unfortunately, his two accomplices managed to escape the scene before they could be detained.
The police are now actively investigating the incident and are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the two individuals who fled the scene. Witnesses or those with relevant details are encouraged to come forward and report what they know to the nearest police station.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of verifying the credentials of anyone claiming to be a law enforcement officer. The police are committed to ensuring that those responsible for this impersonation and assault are held accountable for their actions.
