In a horrific and despicable act, two men from Plumtree, aged 23 and 21, have been convicted and sentenced for the rape of a 76-year-old woman in her own home.
According to the details provided by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the incident occurred on May 28th, 2024, around midnight. The accused individuals allegedly broke into the victim’s bedroom, where she was sleeping with her twin 7-year-old granddaughters.
The court heard that the men first assaulted the children, forcing them to flee to a neighbour’s home. They then allegedly turned their attention to the elderly victim, assaulting and throttling her before taking turns raping her.
After the first accused left the room, the second suspect remained and raped the victim again. It was only when he fell asleep that the elderly woman was able to escape and seek help from her neighbours, who then apprehended the second suspect still at the scene.
The first accused was later arrested, and both men were convicted and sentenced to 20 years each in prison for their heinous crimes.
