In a tragic turn of events, a 26-year-old Nyanga man, Amos Sachikonye, has been arraigned before the Nyanga Magistrates’ Court, facing murder charges for allegedly killing his own father.
According to the details provided by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the incident occurred in Katsatse Village 2 under Chief Saunyama.
Allegations are that the accused person had an altercation with his nephew, which escalated into violence. When the now deceased, Stuart Willard Amon Sachikonye (74) tried to intervene, the accused person picked up a shovel and struck him twice on the head with the back of the shovel.
His mother, Aleta Sachikonye tried to restrain him and he threatened to assault her. She ran away and he pursued her. When he was unable to catch her, he eventually abandoned the chase and returned home. On his way home, he met the now-deceased who tried to run away but slipped and fell. The accused person immediately struck him three times with the back of the shovel.
Amos has been remanded in custody as the case proceeds. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe has once again urged members of the public to refrain from violence and seek amicable solutions or third-party mediation when faced with disputes.
