In a disturbing incident, two young men from Beitbridge, Bright Denhere (19) and Ariafani Moyo (20), have been arraigned before the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court on attempted murder charges.
According to the details provided by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the incident occurred on February 5th, 2024, at around 11 PM. The accused individuals were at Kenneth Moyo’s homestead, where they were drinking beer, when they got into a disagreement with the complainant.
The dispute escalated, and Denhere and Moyo allegedly attacked the complainant, hitting him with logs, booted feet, and fists. The violent assault resulted in the complainant sustaining severe injuries to his neck.
Following the incident, a police report was filed, leading to the arrest of the two accused individuals. During the court proceedings, Denhere pleaded guilty to the charges, and he was subsequently sentenced to 5 years in prison.
Moyo, on the other hand, has denied the charges, and the judgment in his case is set to be handed down on June 6th, 2024.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for conflict resolution and the avoidance of violence, even in the face of disagreements. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe has urged members of the public to seek amicable solutions or third-party mediation when faced with disputes, rather than resorting to acts of aggression.
