Trusted salesman betrays employer: TV Sales & Home employee arrested for brazen theft spree
In a shocking abuse of trust, a salesman working for TV Sales & Home in Chinhoyi has been arraigned before the courts on theft charges. Valentine Nashvale Kamuriwo, 27, of White-City, stands accused of systematically pilfering valuable television sets from the company’s warehouse over a two-month period.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, between March and May 2024, Kamuriwo, who was entrusted with the responsibility of dispatching products to customers, exploited his position to gain unauthorized access to the TV Sales warehouse. On multiple occasions, he is said to have misappropriated a range of high-end television sets, including two 43-inch LG models, two 32-inch Sharp TVs, four 42-inch Sharp TVs, and two 32-inch Tornado sets.
Rather than delivering these items to their rightful owners, Kamuriwo is accused of selling the stolen goods to various individuals around Chinhoyi. However, the salesman’s illicit activities were eventually uncovered when a comprehensive stock take conducted by TV Sales management on May 27th revealed a discrepancy of ten missing television sets.
Confronted with the evidence, Kamuriwo pleaded guilty to the theft charges brought against him. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to return to court on June 4th for sentencing.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining robust internal controls and oversight, especially when entrusting employees with sensitive responsibilities.
