In a shocking display of betrayal, a 21-year-old man from Chipinge has been sentenced to 9 years in prison for stealing cattle from his own grandmother.
James Munooneyi pleaded guilty to stock theft charges before a Chipinge Magistrate on the case. According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, on June 2nd, 2024, the accused went to his grandmother’s kraal in the early hours of the morning and stole two cattle, intending to sell them across the border in Mozambique.
The theft was promptly reported to the police, and their subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Munooneyi and the recovery of the stolen livestock. The courts sentenced the young man to a substantial 9-year prison term.
