In a tragic turn of events, a man in Mnisi Section, Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, lost his life while attempting to mediate a heated argument between a couple on May 11.

Zakhele Dlamini, a 42-year-old who lived in the same yard as the couple, intervened in the lovers’ tiff, which resulted in him being fatally shot. The couple lived in the main house owned by Zakhele’s grandparents.

A family member recounted the harrowing event saying, “My cousin went into the couple’s room to ask them to stop fighting. However, it turned out to be the worst decision because he was shot and killed.

“He was shot twice. Instead of releasing him to be taken to hospital, he held him hostage for hours. My brother died in a pool of blood,” she said.

According to authorities, the suspect was arrested on charges of murder, kidnapping, and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Thursday, June 6, for a bail application.

The family of the deceased has expressed deep concern for their safety, fearing the accused’s potential release on bail could pose a significant threat not only to their family but also to the integrity of the ongoing legal process.

Zakhele’s death has left an irreplaceable void in the lives of his family, who are currently in a state of shock and mourning. The incident has underscored the importance of addressing domestic disputes through appropriate channels to prevent such tragic outcomes.
