In a tragic turn of events, the Bloemfontein radio community is mourning the loss of beloved MOTHEO FM presenter Mohlomphehi “Mokoena Champion” Mokoena.
The 31-year-old media personality was killed in an apparent hit-and-run incident on the N8 highway between Bloemfontein and Botshabelo in the Free State on Sunday, June 2nd.
According to the police report, Mokoena Champion was travelling with his friend, Tshepo Tsebe, when their vehicle suffered a flat tyre. As the two men exited the car to change the tyre, they were struck by an unknown vehicle, which then fled the scene without rendering aid or reporting the accident.

MOTHEO FM Station Manager Lebogang Matolong expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss, describing Mokoena Champion as a “talented presenter” whose “future was bright.” The station and the broader radio community are grappling with the devastating impact of this untimely and senseless incident.
Police have opened a case of culpable homicide, and the investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend the driver responsible for this fatal hit-and-run collision.
