Violent crimes shake Chimanimani and Mbare communities
In a spate of disturbing incidents, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have reported the arrests and investigations of two separate violent crimes resulting in fatalities in different parts of the country.
In Chimanimani, the ZRP confirmed the arrest of Washington Maphosa in connection with the murder of Webster Chitombo on May 25th. The two men were involved in an argument over a mere US$2 dispute at Kwakanaka Village, which allegedly escalated into Maphosa assaulting Chitombo indiscriminately, leading to his death.
Meanwhile, in Mbare, Harare, the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Aaron Ndlovu (32) at a local nightclub on May 27th. According to the ZRP, Ndlovu was allegedly assaulted by an unidentified male suspect with booted feet following a misunderstanding over an undisclosed issue. Ndlovu succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Sally Mugabe Hospital.
The ZRP has appealed to members of the public who may have any information related to these cases to come forward and assist the ongoing investigations, in the hopes of bringing the perpetrators to justice and providing closure for the affected families.
Community leaders and relevant authorities have also been urged to work closely with law enforcement to develop strategies that can foster greater social cohesion and conflict resolution mechanisms, to prevent such senseless loss of life from occurring in the future.
