Bindura man caught impersonating peace officer, sentenced to community service

In a curious case of deception, a Bindura man named Andrew Kudakwashe Dziro has found himself in legal trouble after being charged with two counts – unlawful wearing of a camouflage uniform and impersonating a peace officer.

The incident unfolded on May 10th, 2024, when local police officers came across the accused individual wearing camouflage trousers. Upon questioning, Dziro claimed that he was a soldier. However, when he failed to produce any identification to substantiate his assertion, he was promptly arrested.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, Dziro was arraigned before a Bindura magistrate to face the charges levelled against him. The accusations were twofold – firstly, for the unlawful wearing of a camouflage uniform, and secondly, for impersonating a peace officer.

Dziro was sentenced to 10 months in prison, but the entirety of the sentence was suspended on the condition that he completes 350 hours of community service.

The case serves as a cautionary tale, reminding the public of the importance of respecting the authority and uniform of law enforcement and the military.

As Dziro embarks on his court-ordered community service, the Bindura community will be watching closely to ensure that the lessons of this incident are learned and that the accused individual emerges from this experience with a renewed sense of responsibility and respect for the law.
