Massive dagga bust on Masvingo-Beitbridge Road
In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Mwenezi have intercepted a cross-border bus and arrested a passenger for the unlawful possession of a substantial amount of dagga.
The incident occurred at the 143-kilometer peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road, where authorities stopped the bus and conducted a thorough search. During the inspection, they discovered two boxes containing a total of 42 kilograms of the illicit substance hidden underneath the bus trailer’s tent.
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Janet Mutarisi, was apprehended and is now facing charges related to the unlawful possession of the prohibited drug.
This seizure of the large quantity of dagga is a testament to the effectiveness of the police’s intelligence-gathering and interdiction efforts. The arrest is expected to deal a significant blow to drug smuggling networks operating along the Masvingo-Beitbridge route, a known hotspot for illicit cross-border activities.
The arrested suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to appear in court soon to face the charges against her. Authorities have vowed to continue their pursuit of drug traffickers, sending a strong message that such criminal activities will not be tolerated.
