The Epworth community has been shaken to its core by a horrific act of domestic violence that has left a young child dead and authorities searching for the perpetrator. Police have launched a manhunt for 22-year-old Tinashe Nyamutambo, who is accused of forcing his own 2-year-old child to drink maheu laced with rat poison following a dispute with his wife.
The incident, which occurred on January 29th, 2024, has sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood and left residents grappling with unimaginable grief. According to the details provided by National Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the tragic chain of events unfolded after Nyamutambo became embroiled in a heated domestic dispute with his wife.
“The suspect allegedly forced his child aged two to drink buttermilk maheu which was laced with rat poison following a domestic dispute with his wife,” Nyathi said.
Nyamutambo then proceeded to consume the toxic mixture himself.
Both and the toddler were immediately rushed to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for emergency treatment. Tragically, the child succumbed to the poison just two days later, on January 31st. But the horror did not end there – Nyamutambo managed to escape from the hospital, and his current whereabouts remain unknown.
The community of Epworth is understandably shaken, with many struggling to comprehend how a parent could commit such an unthinkable crime.
