Chinhoyi police officer faces murder charges in court
In a shocking case before the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court, a police officer identified as Talent Mabvuwo (36) has been charged with murder under Section 47 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23.
The victim in this tragic incident is Douglas Sivaminyile. On May 9, 2024, Mabvuwo, accompanied by Constable Madhuku and Constable Chireya, arrived at the home of the now-deceased to investigate a reported crime involving him.
The deceased was suspected of assaulting someone, prompting the police officers’ visit. Armed with a ZRP P1 service pistol containing four rounds, Mabvuwo and his colleagues entered the residence and commenced a search for the suspect. It was during this search that Mabvuwo heard movement coming from the bedroom of the now-deceased, whose makeshift zinc door was closed.
Without issuing a warning, Mabvuwo proceeded to fire four rounds at the closed door, unaware of the dire consequences that would follow. The bullets pierced through the door, striking the now-deceased twice — in the left side of the chest and the right palm — resulting in his immediate death.
Mabvuwo has been remanded in custody until May 28, 2024, as the legal process unfolds.
