Grandson sentenced to prison for stealing from grandmother, a traditional healer
In a distressing turn of events, a 29-year-old man named Douglas Rosewell Ncube was handed an 8-month prison sentence by a Beitridge Magistrate on theft charges. The accused was found guilty of stealing a substantial sum of money from his own 82-year-old grandmother, who happens to be a traditional healer.
According to the court proceedings, the theft took place sometime between April 21st and April 26th, 2024. Douglas Rosewell Ncube allegedly snatched ZAR70,000 and USD600 in cash from his vulnerable grandmother. The incident came to light when the elderly woman reported the matter to the local authorities, prompting a thorough investigation by the police. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe confirmed the case on their X handle.
The diligent efforts of law enforcement led to the arrest of the accused, who was subsequently put on trial for his actions. The Beitridge Magistrate handed down a sentence of 22 months, with certain portions suspended under specific conditions. Of the total sentence, 6 months were suspended, and a further 8 months were subject to suspension on the condition that the accused makes restitution.
In light of the sentencing, Douglas Rosewell Ncube will effectively serve 8 months behind bars, as a consequence of his betrayal and the breach of trust towards his own grandmother.
