Karoi man convicted for negligent driving after reversing into pedestrian
In a recent development, a 44-year-old man from Karoi has been found guilty of negligent driving after his car struck and injured a pedestrian while reversing. Tafidza Manyembere appeared before the Karoi Magistrates’ Court to face charges related to the incident.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the incident took place on March 7, 2024, at approximately 13:30 hours. Manyembere allegedly lost control of his Toyota Fun Cargo while reversing along Chiedza Road, intending to turn onto the Harare-Chirundu road. Unfortunately, during this maneuver, his vehicle hit a pedestrian who was standing on the pavement. The victim suffered a cut above the right eye and an injury to the right leg.
The NPA stated that Manyembere was convicted of the charges and subsequently sentenced by the court. The court imposed a fine of US$200 or three months imprisonment. Additionally, Manyembere’s driver’s license will be endorsed to reflect his conviction for a road traffic offense.
