In a disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a 24-year-old man appeared before the Chegutu Magistrates Court on charges of rape. The accused, whose identity has been withheld, was arraigned following an alleged assault on a 33-year-old woman on the evening of May 5th, 2024.
According to the state’s case, the complainant had just finished her shift at approximately 8:30 p.m. when she encountered the accused at the gate of her workplace premises. It is alleged that he brandished a menacing metal rod, coercing her back into the building against her will.
Once inside, the accused reportedly ordered the frightened woman to undress, subjecting her to a harrowing ordeal. Despite the complainant’s pleas for the use of protection, the accused callously refused and proceeded to rape her.
Courageously, the traumatized victim wasted no time in reporting the incident to the authorities as soon as the assailant departed the scene. Swift action by the police led to the prompt arrest of the accused, who is now in custody pending further legal proceedings.
During the court hearing, the accused was remanded in custody until May 10th, 2024, as the investigation continues and the case progresses. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe confirmed the case on their X handle.
