Man beaten to death by mob following alleged theft in Madziwa
Shamva police have launched an investigation into a tragic incident that occurred near Corner Store in Madziwa on 5th May 2024, resulting in the death of an unidentified male adult. The victim was brutally assaulted by a mob after allegedly stealing a satchel containing a substantial amount of US$450.00 in cash.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident unfolded when the victim was accused of stealing the satchel containing the money. Determined to take matters into their own hands, the mob subjected the suspect to a vicious assault.
Reports indicate that the victim suffered severe head injuries during the merciless attack. He was rushed to Shamva Hospital for urgent medical attention, but tragically, his condition deteriorated rapidly, and he succumbed to his injuries while still under medical care.
Police confirmed the incident on their X handle. “Police in Shamva are investigating a case of murder which occurred on 05/05/24 near Corner Store, Madziwa in which a yet to be identified male adult died. The victim was assaulted by a mob after he allegedly stole a satchel containing US$450.00 cash.
“The victim succumbed to the head injuries sustained during the assault while on admission at Shamva Hospital. Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station,” reads the statement.
The tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of vigilantism and the potential for violence to escalate rapidly in such situations.
