Theft at Highlands Church Office: Thief makes off with US$912 in cash

In a disturbing incident, the office of a pastor at a Highlands church was broken into, resulting in the theft of US$912 in cash on Monday night.

Langalungile Masungenyoka, the caretaker of the Seventh Day Adventist church, discovered the break-in when he woke up to find the pastor’s office had been accessed through the roof. The thief went on to cut off the CCTV connections and stole US$912, which was in the cash box.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident, stating, “Police are investigating an unlawful entry and theft at a church in Highlands.

“A total value stolen is US$912 and nothing was recovered.”

Members of the church expressed strong suspicion that one of their own may have colluded with the thief. They lamented the fact that not all church members are faithful and seek genuine spiritual guidance, as some have ulterior motives. It was suggested that an individual within their congregation acted as a Judas Iscariot figure, receiving payment to facilitate the theft from the church coffers.

The church community hopes that swift action will be taken to identify and bring the perpetrator, along with any potential accomplices, to justice. Such incidents not only impact the financial stability of the church but also erode the trust and unity among its members.
