Man sentenced to 6 months in prison for possession of 1.51 kg of marijuana

A 42-year-old man has been sentenced to 6 months in prison after being found guilty of unlawful possession of 1.51 kg of marijuana.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the police acted swiftly upon receiving a tip-off and proceeded to the accused, Victor Gumisai Kuretu’s, place of residence. A thorough search conducted at the premises led to the discovery of 1.51 kg of loose marijuana, which was found stored in black plastic.

In light of the conviction, Kuretu has been sentenced to 12 months in prison, with 6 months suspended. This means that he will effectively serve 6 months behind bars. Additionally, the court ordered the forfeiture of the confiscated marijuana to the State.

The case serves as another example of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies in Zimbabwe to combat drug-related offences and maintain public safety.
