A woman is battling for life at a local hospital after she was repeatedly stabbed by her former husband on Tuesday for allegedly denying him access to their five children.
Letwin Masunda was on Tuesday stabbed several times on her armpits and shoulders by her ex-husband, Brian Jangwa, who then fled from the scene.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case and said they were appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of Brian.
“Police are investigating an attempted murder case in Epworth involving a woman and her ex husband,” said Insp Chakanza.
“Circumstances are that on March 26, at around 1900 hours, the complainant was at her mother’s house.
“Accused person was reported to have arrived and started a quarrel with the complainant, blaming her for denying him access to their five children.
“The two divorced sometime in 2022 and complainant took custody of the children. Accused is staying in Mbare at an unknown address.
“As the misunderstanding ensued, accused is alleged to have drawn out an okapi knife from his trousers pocket and followed complainant to her room where he stabbed her several times on the shoulders and armpits, before running away, leaving the complainant lying on the floor in agony.
“Multiple stab wounds were noted on the complainant’s body and she was not speaking.
“A blood-stained okapi knife used to stab complainant was recovered in the complainant’s room and the complainant was referred to Sally Mugabe hospital for treatment where she was admitted in the ICU,” said Insp Chakanza. HMetro.
