Harare men accused of fatally assaulting alleged thief in Budiriro suburb–
Two men from Harare, identified as Samson Maruta and Kudakwashe Andrew Nyagumbo, have appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi on murder charges. The men allegedly fatally assaulted a suspected thief whom they caught in the act in Budiriro suburb.
The accused individuals have been remanded in custody until April 5, with the magistrate advising them to seek bail consideration from the High Court.
According to the allegations presented in court, on December 16 of the previous year, around 12:30 AM near Current shops in Budiriro 5B, Maruta and Nyagumbo apprehended William Matore, who was reportedly stealing at the Goshen Community Centre.
It was reported that the accused individuals assaulted Matore using booted feet and a metal object. Subsequently, they abandoned him at a bus stop near the shopping centre, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the identification of the accused by witnesses on March 20, 2024, they were promptly arrested. Matore’s body was subjected to a post-mortem examination at Sally Mugabe Hospital, which revealed that he had died from severe head trauma.
