Man sentenced to 10 years for possessing stolen TelOne cable valued at US$150
In a recent court ruling, a 34-year-old man, Masimba Taibva, has been handed a 10-year prison sentence for the illegal possession of TelOne cable, weighing approximately 1 kilogram and valued at US$150. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) released a statement regarding the case, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding Taibva’s arrest.
According to the NPAZ statement, the arrest took place during the early hours of the morning when a team comprising Police Officers and TelOne Security Officers were conducting patrols in Avondale, Harare. At around 4:40 am, they apprehended Taibva and proceeded to search him. To their discovery, they found a stash of TelOne drop wire concealed within a sack, leading to his subsequent arrest.
The possession of stolen TelOne cable is a serious offence, as it not only undermines the integrity of the telecommunication infrastructure but also disrupts essential services provided by TelOne to the public.
