MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora accused of neglecting nine-year-old son, ordered to pay maintenance
Douglas Mwonzora, the leader of the MDC-T opposition party, has been accused by his ex-lover, Getrude Chuma, of neglecting their nine-year-old son. Chuma made the revelation during a court hearing before Harare magistrate Meenal Narotam, where she requested a monthly upkeep payment of US$1,500 from Mwonzora.
Chuma argued that Mwonzora had the financial means to afford the requested amount, citing his positions as a political party president, ownership of a farm in Nyanga, and directorship at a law firm where he practices as a lawyer.
Chuma further disclosed that Mwonzora insisted their son be enrolled in a private school, despite not fully paying the school fees.
The court also learned that Mwonzora had blocked Chuma’s calls.
In Mwonzora’s absence, Magistrate Narotam granted Chuma’s application, ordering the politician to pay US$500 per month for maintenance and to fully cover their son’s school fees.
