Brazen Robbery: Armed gang escapes with 2.5 tonnes of gold ore from mine
In a daring heist that left the local mining community in shock, a gang of 12 assailants armed with weapons including Columbian knives, iron bars, and logs, raided Slashwood mine and made off with a staggering two and a half tonnes of precious gold ore. The brazen incident occurred last Tuesday night, as confirmed by Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.
According to Inspector Mahoko, the armed gang stormed the mine premises around 11:30 PM, indiscriminately subjecting four on-duty guards to a vicious physical assault. The guards sustained injuries all over their bodies, bearing the brunt of the attackers’ aggression. The audacious criminals then proceeded to load sacks filled with valuable gold ore into a silver Nissan caravan without number plates.
“It is alleged that 12 men armed with Columbian knives, iron bars and logs stormed the mine premises at around 11:30 PM. They indiscriminatingly physically assaulted four men who were on guard all over their bodies,” he said.
“The intruders loaded sacks with gold ore into the vehicle and drove away. A report was made to the police who attended the scene. The injured guards were taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital where three were treated and discharged while one got admitted.
“We are appealing to anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects to approach any police station,” said Inspector Mahoko.
