A shocking incident unfolded on Friday as a man in Guruve met a tragic end after allegedly attempting to rape a woman. Brighton Mapira, the now deceased, was struck twice with an axe handle by his intended victim and her neighbour, leading to his fatal injuries.
According to Inspector Milton Mundembe, the police spokesperson for Mashonaland Central province, the case has been confirmed as a murder. The events unfolded when Mapira reportedly tried to ƨǝxuɑlly assault Manuel Swemma (31), who managed to cry out for help. Swift assistance arrived in the form of Letwin Chisango, a neighbour armed with an axe handle.
Upon Chisango’s arrival, a distressing scene confronted her. Mapira was engaged in a physical struggle with Manuel, attempting to force himself upon her. Startled, Mapira managed to break free and flee from the scene.
Determined not to let him escape justice, the two women pursued Mapira relentlessly and eventually caught up with him. What followed was a harrowing series of events. Allegedly taking turns, they struck Mapira repeatedly on the head with the axe handle until he lost consciousness.
After subduing Mapira, the women bound his hands and legs together using a rope, securing him to a nearby tree. It was at this juncture that Manuel’s husband, Brian Mazhambe, was informed of the unfolding situation. Tragically, upon his arrival, Mazhambe discovered Mapira lifeless. He promptly contacted the police to report the incident.
The details of this case have sent shockwaves through the community, prompting discussions about self-defence and the use of force in such situations.
