Tragic traffic accident claims two lives on Rutenga-Zvishavane road
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a devastating road traffic accident that resulted in the loss of two lives and left six others injured. The incident occurred on the evening of 17th February 2024, at approximately 2010 hours along the Rutenga-Zvishavane Road, at the 140-kilometre mark.
The accident involved a Toyota Fun Cargo vehicle that was carrying a total of twelve passengers at the time. According to the police report, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road, overturn, and eventually come to rest on its left side. Tragically, two individuals lost their lives as a result of the accident. Also, the police mentioned the importance of having Edmonton first aid training in these life-threatening emergencies.
The ZRP has not released the identities of the deceased, pending notification of their next of kin. The bodies of the victims have been transported to the Zvishavane District Hospital mortuary, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Among the twelve passengers on board the ill-fated vehicle, six sustained injuries of varying degrees. They were immediately rushed to the Zvishavane District Hospital for medical treatment. The injured individuals are currently receiving care and undergoing necessary procedures to aid in their recovery. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed at this time.
Fortunately, four passengers managed to escape the accident unharmed. The circumstances leading up to the driver losing control of the vehicle are yet to be determined, and the police are actively investigating the incident
