Fatal head-on collision claims lives in Harare-Chirundu highway accident
Three people are feared dead following a head-on collision between a mini truck travelling towards Chinhoyi and a haulage truck going in the opposite direction. The tragic incident took place at Jones, located between Maningwa Mountains and Lionsden, along the Harare-Chirundu Highway yesterday evening.
The area is known as a notorious accident hotspot, having claimed multiple lives in the past, including that of police biker Sergeant Freddy Chipato at the 131-kilometer mark in 2021.
While Zimbabwe Republic Police provincial spokesperson Inspector Ian Kohwera was unavailable for comment, witnesses confirmed that the accident occurred around 9 pm.
Upon arrival at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital, the victims were pronounced dead.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the haulage truck encroached into the oncoming lane, resulting in the devastating collision.
