Police launch manhunt for suspect in fatal stabbing incident in Matabeleland North

Police in Matabeleland North Province have launched a manhunt for a suspect following a tragic incident that unfolded on Friday, resulting in the death of a village resident. Kwanele Moyo (36) fatally stabbed Casper Dube at Sembeule Business Centre in Gwelutshena around 6 pm. The altercation reportedly arose from a dispute over outstanding debts owed to Moyo’s two younger brothers.

Eyewitnesses claim that an argument erupted when Moyo confronted Dube, demanding an explanation for the unpaid debts. As tensions escalated, Dube picked up a log and struck Moyo once on the back. In a shocking turn of events, Moyo swiftly drew a knife from his pocket and plunged it into Dube’s chest, instantly claiming his life.

Moyo attempted to escape the scene by seeking refuge in a nearby shop, while a courageous witness pursued him. However, before the witness could apprehend the suspect, Moyo emerged from the shop and viciously stabbed the pursuer in the back. He then retreated back into the shop, leaving the traumatized witness in pain.

The witness promptly reported the incident at ZRP Mateme Base, which falls under the jurisdiction of Gwelutshena Police Station. Law enforcement authorities swiftly responded, attending to the crime scene and transferring Dube’s lifeless body to Nkayi District Hospital. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place at UBH Hospital in Bulawayo. Meanwhile, the wounded witness received medical treatment at Mateme Clinic and was discharged in stable condition.

Inspector Glory Banda, the Matabeleland North Province Police Spokesperson, confirmed that a murder report had been received, and investigations are currently underway to locate and apprehend the suspect.
