In a heart-wrenching incident that has left the community reeling with grief, a 12-year-old boy was discovered lifeless inside a vending cooler box. The young boy, identified as Arnold Gorembeu, had gone missing on February 3, 2024, after being left by his father to play with friends at Musami Business Centre.
The circumstances surrounding this distressing incident unfolded when Arnold’s father, Golden Gorembeu, returned from a business trip in Bindura. He was met with the devastating news of his son’s disappearance, relayed to him by his mother-in-law, Ms Esther Mutetwa (62), who is a vendor at Musami Business Centre.
Eager to find his beloved child, Golden Gorembeu initially believed that Arnold was still engrossed in play with his friends somewhere within the business center. He proceeded to attend a memorial service in the neighbouring Chivhinge village, thinking his son would eventually return home. Little did he know what awaited him the following morning.
As daybreak bathed the village in its gentle light, Golden Gorembeu returned from the memorial service, only to discover the crushing reality that Arnold had not slept at home. Filled with growing concern, he rallied the locals to aid in the search for his missing son. Despite their combined efforts, the hunt proved fruitless, compelling Golden Gorembeu to report Arnold’s disappearance as a missing person case at Musami Post later that day, around 6 pm.
Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi, the police spokesperson for Mashonaland East province, confirmed the tragic incident, expressing grave concern over the circumstances surrounding the young boy’s demise. He revealed that suspicions have emerged suggesting the possibility of suffocation within the vending cooler box.
The search for Arnold continued relentlessly, with Golden Gorembeu refusing to give up hope. It was during this desperate pursuit that tragedy struck once again. At approximately 8 pm, Arnold’s younger brother, the seven-year-old Genius Gorembeu, made a heart-wrenching discovery. He stumbled upon his brother’s lifeless body concealed within one of the vending cooler boxes. The shocking find prompted an immediate report to Musami Post, and law enforcement officers swiftly arrived at the scene.
