Tragedy unfolded at a lodge in Bulawayo as a man was discovered lifeless, hanging from the roof trusses with two gunshot wounds to the head. The distressing incident, which occurred on Wednesday, has left the community in shock and raised concerns about mental health support.
According to Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube, authorities were alerted to the scene after receiving a report that the man had expressed his intention to take his own life. Inspector Ncube emphasized the importance of seeking counselling and reaching out to trusted individuals or organizations, such as pastors, community elders, or the Victim Friendly Unit (VFU) within the police, when faced with difficult circumstances.
A source closely connected to the incident revealed that Nicolle William had allegedly contacted the lodge manager the previous Thursday, disclosing that the deceased, identified as James Rory (39), had made a reservation with the intention of ending his own life.
After receiving the call, the concerned manager promptly went to Rory’s room, only to find the door locked. Sensing the urgency of the situation, the manager entrusted spare keys to a subordinate, who joined him to investigate further. What they encountered inside the room was deeply disturbing.
Rory’s lifeless body hung from the roof truss, with blood seeping from his head. Upon closer examination, they discovered that he had suffered two gunshot wounds to the head. Additionally, a pistol was found in the pockets of his trousers. The lodge management wasted no time in alerting the authorities, who swiftly launched an investigation into the incident.
Efforts to get a comment from William were fruitless.
