Four individuals, three of whom are brothers, appeared in court yesterday on charges of armed robbery. Brain Madzima, Lameck Madzima, Tatenda Madzima, and Roman Badza are accused of robbing a family of money and valuables worth US$1,000.
The suspects appeared before Harare Regional Magistrate Mr Donald Ndirowei and were remanded in custody until February 20. They were advised to seek bail at the High Court.
According to State Prosecutor Mr Anesu Chirenje, the alleged robbery took place in the early hours of January 13. The accused individuals reportedly devised a plan to target the complainants and proceeded to their residence armed with a pistol, hammer, bolt cutter, iron bars, and a catapult.
Upon arrival, they smashed a window using an unknown object to gain entry into the house. Inside, they confronted and physically assaulted Walter Chorosi and his wife Yeukai Muropa, who were asleep in their bedroom. The suspects demanded cash and other valuables.
During the ordeal, the accused individuals ransacked the house and made off with US$500 in cash, a Dell laptop, a Huawei cell phone, a Samsung A13 smartphone, an iPad, and a sling bag. Leaving the victims behind, they fled the scene with the stolen items.
The victims reported the incident to the police, which led to the subsequent arrest of the suspects. They now face charges of armed robbery.
As the legal process unfolds, the accused individuals will remain in custody until their next court appearance. They have been advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
