Former Zengeza West legislator, Job Sikhala, has vehemently denied any knowledge of Sengezo Tshabangu, the self-imposed Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC). In an exclusive interview with NewZimbabwe, Sikhala challenged Tshabangu to provide concrete evidence of their alleged connection, beyond mere online photographs.
Sikhala, who recently regained his freedom after spending a staggering 595 days in pretrial detention on charges of inciting public violence, expressed his disbelief at the claims made by Tshabangu.
Reports have been circulating, albeit unverified, that Tshabangu had been boasting about being responsible for Sikhala’s eventual release. The presence of Tshabangu’s lawyers, Lewis Uriri and Nqobani Sithole, at Sikhala’s last court appearance was cited as supposed evidence of their relationship.
However, Sikhala dismissed these claims, stating, “The truth of the matter is that I have never seen or known anyone called Sengezo Tshabangu. If we meet in the streets we might even pass each other.”
Sikhala further revealed that he had heard from colleagues that Tshabangu joined the MDC-T in 2005 after the party split and became the MDC-T Provincial Chairperson for Matabeleland North.
“I have never talked to him and I do not know his intentions,” Sikhala added.
While Sikhala acknowledged that Tshabangu might recognize him from the news, he reiterated that he had no knowledge of the individual in question. The controversy surrounding their alleged connection adds yet another layer of complexity to an already turbulent political landscape.
