In a shocking incident on Tuesday night, a suspected drug dealer is currently at large after reportedly assaulting Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Tongai Mnangagwa. The altercation occurred following a dispute over parking space in Harare’s Avenues area.
According to a police report obtained by The Herald, Deputy Minister Mnangagwa, accompanied by his associates and aides, had parked their convoy outside Trude Mansions, an apartment block located at the intersection of Sixth Street and Fife Avenue. They had attended a party at the apartment block, and upon returning to his car, Mnangagwa was confronted by the suspect, Antony Mwedziwendira. The accused confronted him complaining about his vehicles having been blocked in the parking lot during the event.
In a sudden turn of events, Mwedziwendira aggressively charged towards the Deputy Minister, assaulting him with open hands. Mnangagwa’s aides swiftly intervened, but the suspect continued his aggression, allegedly assaulting one of the aides as well.
Upon realizing the identity of his target as a Deputy Minister, Mwedziwendira quickly fled the scene, leaving behind four vehicles — a BMW, a VW, and two Mercedes Benz sedans. The incident was immediately reported to the police at ZRP Milton Park. During a subsequent search of the vehicles, law enforcement officers discovered an assortment of illicit drugs and substances. Notably, two passports were also found, including one in the name of Antony Mwedziwendira.
