A Zimbabwean man who once held a managerial position at a popular Kruger National Park eatery is on the run after allegedly absconding with nearly one million rand.
Amos Kampyinya, 44, is wanted by South Africa’s elite police unit, the Hawks, in connection with a daring theft last July at Mug & Bean, an upscale restaurant located within the famed wildlife reserve. According to Hawks spokesperson Captain Mandla Mphephethe, Kampyinya exploited his role overseeing restaurant finances to siphon off R897,229.50 in company funds before slipping away without a trace.
An investigation revealed Kampyinya had vacated his employee housing at a flat complex in nearby Karino.
“The Hawks in Mpumalanga require assistance from the community to locate a suspect appearing in the attached photographs known as Amos Tineyi Kampyinya (44), a Zimbabwean citizen. The suspect is sought in connection with a fraud and theft case, which took place in July 2022, at Kruger National Park Mpumalanga,” read the statement.
Any with information on Kampyinya’s whereabouts are urged to contact Mphephethe directly, with confidentiality and anonymity guaranteed for informants.
