Man in hot soup after being caught with a gun in Harare CBD

Tichaona Dube, a 35-year-old man from Epworth, appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi to face charges of unlawfully possessing a firearm.

The incident occurred on January 18th at around 6:50pm when police officers from Kopje station were conducting stop-and-search patrols along Mbuya Nehanda Street in Harare’s Central Business District.

Prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi detailed that the officers came across Dube carrying a small brown satchel at the corner of Mbuya Nehanda Street and Jason Moyo Avenue. Upon searching the satchel, they discovered a 7.65mm Bernardelli pistol with an empty magazine as well as a tear gas canister.

Dube was subsequently arrested. At his court appearance, he was granted $50 bail and remanded out of custody until his next hearing on February 27th.
