Harare Car Thieves Apprehended: Five suspects arrested for robbery and theft
In separate incidents in Harare, five individuals have been arrested on allegations of robbing and stealing two cars in Kuwadzana and Chitungwiza.
Three of the suspects were apprehended in Mufakose, while the remaining two were nabbed in the CBD. The individuals in Mufakose were caught in the act of stripping a stolen vehicle of its parts.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesperson, confirmed the arrests, stating, “The ZRP reports that lnnocent Chigwaza aged 40, Johannes Matema aged 28 and Lincolin Tichaona Fero aged 29 were arrested in connection with a case of theft of a motor vehicle which occurred in Kuwadzana 3 on January 23, 2024, in which a Nissan Atlas motor vehicle was stolen.
“The stolen motor vehicle was tracked and recovered at the suspect’s place of residence.”
Furthermore, the police have confirmed the apprehension of Austin Makalanga (37) and Tapiwa Chikara (29) in connection with a robbery that took place on January 23, 2024, at 9 pm. The suspects allegedly hired a taxi operator from Chikwanha Shopping Centre to Koala Park, but along Seke Road, they attacked the victim, stole a Huawei cellphone and US$10 in cash, and forcibly removed the victim from the vehicle, a Toyota Sienta. However, the stolen vehicle was subsequently tracked to Harare CBD, leading to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the vehicle and Huawei cellphone.
The police are now seeking information regarding the identification and whereabouts of an accomplice known only as Kudzi, who is believed to be connected to this case.
