In a startling incident on Monday, a family residing in Waterfalls was targeted by three robbers posing as police officers, resulting in the loss of US$13,000 in cash.
According to reports, the criminals gained access to the house through an unlocked door, catching the victim off guard. Brandishing a pistol and handcuffs, they deceitfully identified themselves as members of the police force.
The unsuspecting victim was then subjected to a vicious attack by the impostors. In their brazen act, the robbers made off with a safe that contained the significant sum of US$13,000, along with other valuable belongings.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the spokesperson for the national police, confirmed the distressing incident.
“Police in Waterfalls are investigating a case of robbery which occurred at a house in Leonard Road, Chevoit, Waterfalls on January 22, 2024, in which three unknown male suspects who were armed with a pistol and handcuffs, entered a house through an unlocked door and identified themselves as members of the Police to the occupant.
“The trio attacked the victim before stealing a safe containing US$13 000 among other valuables. Anyone with information to report at any nearest police station,” he said.
