Head-on collision in Kwekwe claims three lives and injures 23
Tragedy struck on the Harare-Bulawayo Highway in Kwekwe as a devastating head-on collision between a commuter omnibus and a Toyota Wish vehicle resulted in the loss of three lives and left 23 others injured. The incident occurred near the King Solomons Hotel on Friday morning, as confirmed by the police.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the fatal accident took place at the 215-kilometre peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road on January 19, 2024. A Nissan Caravan kombi, carrying 18 passengers, collided head-on with a Toyota Wish vehicle, which had eight passengers on board.
The police expressed their condolences and provided preliminary details of the accident through their official X handle. Investigations into the incident are underway to determine the exact cause of the collision.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 215 kilometre peg along Harare – Bulawayo Road on 19/01/24 in which three people were killed whilst 23 others were injured when a Nissan Caravan kombi with 18 passengers on board was involved in a head on collision with a Toyota Wish vehicle with eight passengers on board. The bodies of the victims were taken to Kwekwe General Hospital mortuary for post mortem whilst the injured are admitted at the same hospital,” said police via their official X handle.
