Police in Kwekwe, Midlands province have launched a manhunt for a group of armed robbers following a horrifying incident at a farmhouse. The gang brutally attacked the property, resulting in the death of an 85-year-old farmer, Henry Karonga, and the rape of two of his relatives.

Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the tragic event, which occurred on January 16 at approximately 8:30 PM at Greenham Farm. The intruders, wearing face masks, forcibly entered the farmhouse, where Karonga was sleeping in the dining room. One of the assailants struck him on the forehead and chest with an unidentified object, instantly killing him.

According to Inspector Mahoko, the robbers proceeded to ransack the house, stealing US$65 in cash and two mobile phones. They then entered a room where two women were sleeping, tied them up using electric cables, and subjected them to a harrowing ordeal of rɑpe.

Continuing their rampage, the criminals proceeded upstairs and broke into a safe, making off with its contents, which are yet to be determined. They also seized the keys to Karonga’s white Nissan vehicle and drove away.

The two traumatized women were immediately taken to Kwekwe General Hospital for medical care, while Karonga’s body was transported to the same hospital’s mortuary.
