In a daring act, two robbers reportedly jumped onto a moving truck, with one of them smashing the driver’s window and making off with a cellphone and US$107 in cash.
The incident was confirmed by Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the spokesperson for the Midlands provincial police. He stated that the police had received a report of a robbery that occurred on January 16 at approximately 4:30 AM along the Gweru-Mvuma Road. The victim, Tawanda Katsande (33) from Harare, was driving towards Mvuma at the time of the incident.
According to Inspector Mahoko, as Katsande approached Greenvale Business Centre in Gweru, he decreased his speed while navigating over some speed bumps. It is alleged that two men suddenly hopped onto the left side ladder of the truck and clung onto the vehicle.
One of the robbers proceeded to shatter the passenger window, enabling both individuals to gain entry into the truck’s cabin. The other robber brandished a pistol, pointed it at the driver, and ordered him to pull off the road. They then demanded that Katsande hand over his cash. Subsequently, the two suspects seized US$107 in cash and a Samsung cellphone before disembarking from the vehicle.
