‘I have 4 children with 4 different women, my sister has 5 children with 5 different men’

In a recent incident in Harare, two men have made accusations of witchcraft against their father, alleging that his failure to seek spiritual assistance with them is the cause of their misfortunes. The sons, named Honour and Richard Chibanda, have voiced their concerns regarding their father, Andrew, and have sought intervention in the matter.

A protection order was successfully obtained by Andrew against his two sons yesterday, as a means of safeguarding himself from their actions. Andrew explained that Honour had developed mental health issues due to drug abuse, and as a result, he had sent him to stay with his mother in Mt Darwin. However, upon Honour’s return, he began to attribute his insanity to Andrew’s alleged witchcraft and even threatened him with unspecified harm.

Richard, on the other hand, denied explicitly labelling his father as a witch.

“We just sat with him and asked that we seek assistance from a prophet as to why I have four children with four different women, while our sister has five children with five different men?” said Richard.

Magistrate Sharon Mashavira granted Andrew the protection order against his sons.
